Results of the Recreational Marine Research Center  (RMRC) Boat Show Survey

Do SCMA boat shows produce results?  Here's what 5,356 boat show attendees had to say.

  • 64.9% said they were "very likely", "likely" or "somewhat likely" to purchase a new boat from a dealership that exhibited at the boat show.
  • 71.4% said they "strongly agree" or "agreed" that boat shows are usually a significant part of their boat buying process.
  • 68.3% said they "strongly agreed" or "agreed" that attending boat shows increase their desire to purchase a new boat.
  • 20.3% said they specifically went to a boat show with the intention of buying a new boat.
  • 57.6% said they went to the boat show without the intention of buying a boat, but became interested in buying a new boat while attending the show.
  • 82.0% said that the reason for attending the boat show was "extremely important" or "somewhat important" to research new boats for a future purchase.
  • 78.6% said that the reason for attending the boat show was "extremely important" or "somewhat important" to view or purchase boating accessories.
  • 90.6% said they have participated in recreational boating during the past twelve months.
  • This survey was conducted by the RMRC, founded by Michigan State University and the NMMA.  RMRC has been conducting special studies for the recreational boating industry for over 40 years.
