The Southern California Marine Association was founded in October 1956 by a group of concerned and dedicated marine industry leaders representing forty-five different companies for the sole purpose of promoting, nurturing and improving the recreational boating business in Southern California.

Since that time, SCMA has functioned as the unifying entity in this ever-growing market, providing marine enterprises, large and small, with the necessary support, knowledge, resources and encouragement to operate successful businesses through all types of economic conditions. With over 800 member firms, SCMA is one of the largest and oldest marine trade associations in the country. SCMA is governed by its members, through regularly scheduled elections of officers to its fifteen member Board of Directors.

On a daily basis, a paid, full-time staff that implements the directives of the governing board operates SCMA. SCMA also works in concert with other regional and national boating trade associations to accomplish its goals. For nearly fifty years, SCMA has proven to be an indispensable ingredient in the overall success and well being of the Southern California marine market.
